It started in September 2020, and is a popular competition, around the world. There&#8217;s a new competition this year, and it&#8217;s for university students, so don&#8217;t miss out!<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Financial Modeling World Cup<\/h3>\n<p>In the Financial Modeling World Cup (FMWC), participants solve real-life financial problems, using Microsoft Excel. The competition was started by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/andrewgrig\/\">Andrew Grigolyunovich<\/a> (Linkedin profile), and is sponsored by AGT Capital CFO Services, and Microsoft.<\/p>\n<p>Stage 3 of the 2022 competition will run from April 22-25, and you can learn more about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fmworldcup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on the Financial Modeling World Cup website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Financial Modeling as esports<\/h3>\n<p>In addition to a traditional type of financial modeling competition format, the FMWC team has&nbsp; introduced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fmworldcup.com\/excel-as-esports\/\">Excel as esports<\/a>. Some of my fellow Excel MVPs, including Danielle Stein Fairhurst, Tim Heng, Oz du Soleil, Bill Jelen, and Jon Acampora have hosted these esports events, which were shown on ESPN!<\/p>\n<p>There are a couple of videos at the bottom of this page, showing the June 21, 2021 battle.<\/p>\n<h3>Financial Modeling University Championship<\/h3>\n<p>This year, there&#8217;s a new competition, especially for university students &#8211; Financial Modeling University Championship (FMUC). Andrew Grigolyunovich and his team are working with Professor David Brown, at the University of Arizona Eller College of Management, to organize this event.<\/p>\n<p>You can get the details and rules on the competition website, and here are the highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Date<\/strong>: April 9 to May 7, 2022<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cost<\/strong>: Free to enter<\/li>\n<li><strong>Prize<\/strong>: $10K prize fund<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What are the competition tasks like?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The event will consist of online series of competitions made for university students<\/li>\n<li>Tasks will test the general knowledge of finance and business topics<\/li>\n<li>Questions will be either multiple choice or type-in format. There will be no essay-type questions!<\/li>\n<li>Your financial model formatting and style will not be judged<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Why Join FMUC?<\/h3>\n<p>Are you a university student, and do you wonder if you should join the FMUC competition?<\/p>\n<p>On Linkedin, the Financial Modeling World Cup shared the following reasons for joining the Financial Modeling University Championship.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>It&#8217;s Free to Join<\/strong>! All the costs are covered by the FMUC organizers and sponsors. It won&#8217;t cost you anything.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Learn Things<\/strong>! In the competition, you&#8217;ll solve real-life financial questions and problems. Tackling problems is a great way to learn new skills.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Recognition<\/strong>! If you reach the top 30% in the competition, your name will be published in the rankings. Your peers, professors and potential employers will see proof of your Excel skills! Top participants will be invited to join the live-streamed finals.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Prize Money<\/strong>! There is a $10K prize fund, and it would be nice to have a share of that!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Play Alone or with Friends<\/strong>! You can sign up as an individual contestant, or as a team of 2-3 people.
