Spreadsheet Day 2021 is almost here \u2013 <strong>Sunday, October 17, 2021<\/strong>. What plans do you have for this year\u2019s celebrations?<\/p>\n<h3>Spreadsheet Day Beginnings<\/h3>\n<p>Spreadsheet Day began in 2010, and this is the 12th year that we&#8217;ll be celebrating. You can read the <a href=\"https:\/\/spreadsheet-day.com\/blog\/about\/\">details about how I started Spreadsheet Day, on the About page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>VisiCalc Release Date<\/h3>\n<p>Why is Spreadsheet Day celebrated on October 17th? That was the date, in 1979, when <a href=\"https:\/\/spreadsheet-day.com\/blog\/spreadsheet-history\/visicalc\/\">VisiCalc was first released<\/a>. VisiCalc was the first spreadsheet for personal computers, and you can read <a href=\"https:\/\/spreadsheet-day.com\/blog\/spreadsheet-history\/visicalc\/\">more about VisiCalc<\/a> in the Spreadsheet History section.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re a true spreadsheet nerd, you might like this VisiCalc demo by Dan Bricklin, using an Apple II emulator. He shares the reasons for some of the design decisions they made, when building the first spreadsheet for personal computers.<\/p>\n<p>The VisiCalc demo was a presentation for the Spring 2019 class in Interaction Techniques class, in the Carnegie Mellon University, School of Computer Science program. And you won&#8217;t be distracted by your co-workers talking about PowerPoint or Word.
