It&#8217;s been growing every year since I started this event on October 17, 2010. Here is a Spreadsheet Day 2017 wrap up, with some of the day&#8217;s highlights.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Apple II and VisiCalc<\/h3>\n<p>Quartz had a feature article for Spreadsheet Day &#8212; <a title=\"Apple's first big break came because of the spreadsheet\" href=\"https:\/\/qz.com\/1103867\/visicalc-and-apple-aapl-steve-jobs-said-that-the-spreadsheet-was-key-to-apples-early-success\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Apple&#8217;s first big break came because of the spreadsheet<\/a>. For the first two years that VisiCalc was available, you could only run it on an Apple II. Dan Bricklin described the importance of that, in his 2015 interview with Quartz:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;VisiCalc\u2026helped them sell the machine, which provided the money that went into the development of the Macintosh.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Watch the video at the end of the article, to see Steve Jobs talking about VisiCalc.<\/p>\n<h3>Quartz Obsession<\/h3>\n<p>Spreadsheets were the topic in yesterday&#8217;s edition of <a title=\"Quartz Obsession\" href=\"https:\/\/qz.com\/email\/quartz-obsession\/1103346\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Quartz Obsession<\/a>. If you didn&#8217;t get that email, read it online.
