What special events do you have planned today, as we celebrate this glorious occasion?<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Spreadsheet Day History<\/h3>\n<p>In 2010, I started Spreadsheet Day, and you can read the <a title=\"details on the About page\" href=\"http:\/\/spreadsheet-day.com\/blog\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">details on the About page<\/a> of this blog. If chocolate, and hot dogs, and beer have their days, then spreadsheets should certainly have one too \u2013 don&#8217;t you agree?<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been getting bigger every year, so let&#8217;s keep building it! To help spread the word, be sure to tell all your friends, family and co-workers about Spreadsheet Day. Make a tweet or two, announce it on your Facebook timeline, or get one of those airplanes that pulls a banner, and fly over your city \u2013 and be sure to make a video of that!<\/p>\n<h3>VisiCalc Release Date<\/h3>\n<p>October 17th is our celebration day, because October 17, 1979, is when <a href=\"http:\/\/spreadsheet-day.com\/blog\/spreadsheet-history\/visicalc\/\">VisiCalc was first released<\/a> \u2013 the first spreadsheet for personal computers. What a great idea! It shows an old VisiCalc screen, and the software release date &#8212; October 17, 1979.
