Spreadsheets in Education<\/h6>\n<p>In the <a href=\"http:\/\/epublications.bond.edu.au\/ejsie\/all_issues.html\">Spreadsheets in Education journal<\/a>, you can read a variety of interesting articles, including &#8220;Divination: Using Excel to explore Ethnomathematics&#8221; (Vol. 8, Issue 1). Some of the articles have workbooks that you can download.<\/p>\n<p>Also, Alice Keeler, from the Teacher Tech blog, wants <a title=\"math teachers to start using spreadsheets\" href=\"http:\/\/www.alicekeeler.com\/teachertech\/2015\/04\/22\/a-call-to-math-teachers-use-spreadsheets\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">math teachers to start using spreadsheets<\/a> in the classroom.<\/p>\n<p>For teachers who are using Google Sheets, Corey Aylen lists a few <a title=\"helpful add-ons for education\" href=\"http:\/\/coreyaylen.com\/2015\/04\/26\/google-sheets-add-ons-for-education\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">helpful add-ons for education<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h6>2. Project Tracking<\/h6>\n<p>Use <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.contextures.com\/archives\/2015\/04\/09\/track-project-tasks-in-excel\/\">Excel to track simple project tasks<\/a>. Enter a task description, the estimated and actual times, date completed, and other info.<\/p>\n<h6>3. Google Sheets Chart Tricks<\/h6>\n<p>In a short video, Sara Silverstein shows how to create maps, add annotations, and show estimates, <a title=\"in Google Sheets charts\" href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/chart-tricks-google-sheets-maps-annotations-estimates-2015-4\" rel=\"nofollow\">in Google Sheets charts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Those features aren&#8217;t available in Excel charts, but James Hewitt lists <a title=\"7 reasons to like Excel\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.caplin.com\/2015\/04\/17\/7-reasons-to-like-microsoft-excel-over-google-sheets\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">7 reasons to like Excel<\/a> over Google Sheets.<\/p>\n<h6>4. Clustered Column Chart Alternatives<\/h6>\n<p>If you&#8217;d like a change from clustered column charts, you&#8217;ll be inspired by 6 new ideas from Ann K. Emery. She helped a colleague overhaul a chart, and wants to know <a href=\"http:\/\/annkemery.com\/clustered-bar-chart\/\">which alternative you like the best<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h6>5. Using Goal Seek<\/h6>\n<p>Goal Seek is one of the What If Analysis tools in Excel, and Winston Snyder shows <a href=\"http:\/\/dataprose.org\/?p=1879\">how to use Goal Seek<\/a>, manually, or with a macro. See how much you would have to adjust a number, to reach a target amount.<\/p>\n<h6>6. Function Tips<\/h6>\n<p>On the PC World blog, JD Sartain shared a list of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcworld.com\/article\/2877236\/excel-formulas-cheat-sheet-15-essential-tips-for-calculations-and-common-tasks.html\">15 Excel function tips<\/a>. There are 3 categories &#8212; entering formulas, formulas for common tasks, and bonus tips.<\/p>\n<h6>7. Understanding Array Formulas<\/h6>\n<p>Array formulas can be confusing and intimidating, if you don&#8217;t use them often, or haven&#8217;t used them before. On the Model Off blog, Dan Mayoh explains what arrays are, and how to use them in financial models.<\/p>\n<h6>8. Microsoft MVP Virtual Conference<\/h6>\n<p>The first ever (and free) <a href=\"http:\/\/mvp.microsoft.com\/en-us\/virtualconference.aspx\">Microsoft Americas MVP Virtual Conference<\/a> will be held online, May 14-15, 2015, with sessions from 8 AM to 6 PM (Pacific Time), both days. If you don&#8217;t have time to attend the full online conference, you can <a href=\"http:\/\/mvp.microsoft.com\/en-us\/virtualconference-agenda.aspx\">see the full agenda<\/a>, to find sessions you&#8217;re most interested in.<\/p>\n<h6>9. OpenVis Presentation Videos<\/h6>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/openvisconf.com\/\">videos from the recent OpenVis conference<\/a> are available online, and the interactive Table of Contents makes it easy to access them, and find topics of interest.
