That&#8217;s the town where Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston worked on their VisiCalc program, before releasing it in 1979.<\/p>\n<p>On October 17th, 2024, the yourArlington website posted a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yourarlington.com\/component\/easyblog\/entry\/40-history\/3368-spreadsheet-101724.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">letter from Arlington resident, Paul Selker<\/a>, who recommended that the town should honour this tech history, in the following 3 ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>town proclamation to honour Spreadsheet Day<\/li>\n<li>historical plaque near Frankston&#8217;s former apartment<\/li>\n<li>VisiCalc history added to the town&#8217;s website<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That sounds like a great idea, so if you live in Arlington, please support this!<\/p>\n<h3>Early Days<\/h3>\n<p>In this photo, Mary L Cottingham shows the computer equipment that she used, when starting out with VisiCalc.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SpreadsheetDay?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#SpreadsheetDay<\/a> is celebrated on October 17th, the date VisiCalc, the first spreadsheet program for Apple ll, was released in 1979&#8230; and the process of massive amounts of data became easier.
