Here are a couple of interesting spreadsheet examples that I saw this week. One person explained their dating spreadsheet, and another young person used Excel while acting in a movie.

Excel On Camera

Last September, Edward Berger’s “All Quiet on the Western Front” had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The movie was well received, with good ratings, and won 4 Oscars earlier this month.

This week, I was surprised to learn that the lead actor, Felix Kammerer, used Microsoft Excel during the filming.

Because scenes are not usually filmed in chronological order, Kammerer used his Excel spreadsheet to keep track of his character’s emotional journey. Then, before filming new scenes, he could check the Excel notes, and be at the correct “level of despair” based on the timeline.

Excel Battles

Making that movie sounded exhausting, and worse than the battles that we have with our Excel files!

But, if we ever do have to go to war with our spreadsheets, we could wear brick-style camouflage, to blend in with the cells.

I took this camouflage photo at the Canadian War Museum, and I’m sure we could make an Excel version, if needed!

Excel for Dating

I’ve seen plenty of stories about problems with dates in Excel, and sad stories about Excel automatically changing imported numbers to dates.

But I saw a different twist on the Excel Date stories this week – people are keeping track of their dates in a spreadsheet.

It sounds like a great idea to me, but apparently, some people find it ridiculous. Anyway, in the TikTok video shown below, you can see one of these dating spreadsheets, complete with pie charts, column charts and line charts. It looks awesome!

@findingjenny #stitch with @crelyea12 where my spreadsheet gang at @redjustinphan @manicbunnie #tinder #hinge ♬ original sound – Findingjenny

____________________

Spreadsheets for Dating and Movie Making

_____________

Happy Friday!
