The annual Spreadsheet Day is on October 17th, and was first celebrated in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m <a href=\"https:\/\/debradalgleish.com\/blog\/about-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Debra Dalgleish<\/a>, the founder of Spreadsheet Day, and owner of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.contextures.com\">Contextures Excel website<\/a> and blog.<\/p>\n<h3>Spreadsheet Day &#8211; October 17th<\/h3>\n<p>In 2010, October 17th as was chosen as Spreadsheet Day, because VisiCalc, the first spreadsheet for personal computers, was released on October 17th, 1979.<\/p>\n<p>The screen shot below is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.benlo.com\/visicalc\/visicalc4.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">from the VisiCalc section of Peter Jennings&#8217; website<\/a>. He co-founded Personal Software, which became VisiCorp. it was the VisiCalc release date, in 1979<\/li>\n<li>This Spreadsheet Day blog was created in July 2010, to serve as a coordination point for the annual event<\/li>\n<li>In early October 2010, I reminded readers that the first Spreadsheet Day was only a week away<\/li>\n<li>On the first Spreadsheet Day, Oct. 17, 2010, I posted <a title=\"Spreadsheet Day 2010\" href=\"https:\/\/spreadsheet-day.com\/blog\/2010\/10\/17\/happy-spreadsheet-day-2010\/\">announcements on this blog<\/a>, and <a title=\"Spreadsheet Day 2010\" href=\"https:\/\/contexturesblog.com\/archives\/2010\/10\/15\/spreadsheet-day-2010-top-5-excel-tips\/\">on my Contextures blog<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>2011<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>For the second Spreadsheet Day, I challenged readers to create a <a href=\"https:\/\/contexturesblog.com\/archives\/2011\/10\/10\/spreadsheet-day-2011-challenge\/\">spreadsheet that would be useful to students<\/a> and reminded them that <a href=\"https:\/\/contexturesblog.com\/archives\/2011\/10\/14\/spreadsheet-day-2011-preparations\/\">the day was coming<\/a><\/li>\n<li>There were a <a href=\"https:\/\/contexturesblog.com\/archives\/2011\/10\/19\/spreadsheet-day-2011-review\/\">few participants in the event<\/a>, who posted student spreadsheets or tips on their blogs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>2012 &#8211; 2013<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Celebrations were low key in 2012, and I <a href=\"https:\/\/contexturesblog.com\/archives\/2012\/10\/16\/spreadsheet-day-2012\/\">posted Excel tips on my blog<\/a>, along with a few tweets<\/li>\n<li>In 2013, I <a href=\"https:\/\/contexturesblog.com\/archives\/2013\/10\/17\/spreadsheet-day-2013\/\">posted a link of my favourite spreadsheet articles<\/a> for the year, and there were a few more tweets than the year before<\/li>\n<li>I submitted Spreadsheet Day to a couple of event calendar websites, and it was picked up by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.daysoftheyear.com\/days\/spreadsheet-day\/\">Days of the Week site<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>2014 &#8211; Present<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Spreadsheet Day got more publicity in 2014, which was the <a href=\"https:\/\/spreadsheet-day.com\/blog\/2014\/10\/17\/happy-spreadsheet-day-2014\/\">35th anniversary of the VisiCalc release<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Even Dan Bricklin re-tweeted a Spreadsheet Day announcement, so that must make it an official celebration!<\/li>\n<li>The Mirror posted a Spreadsheet Day 2014 article &#8212;
