Happy Spreadsheet Day 2022
Happy Spreadsheet Day 2022 What will you do to celebrate today?
Lucky Celebration Year 13
The first Spreadsheet Day was on October 17, 2010, so this is Year 13 for our spreadsheet celebrations.
Some people consider number 13 to be unlucky, but that isn’t a problem for spreadsheet users:
- We use row 13 in our worksheets every day, without a second thought
- 13 is a prime number, and prime means “Excel”-ent
- 13 is also a Fibonacci number, and everybody loves those!
Those are just a few of the interesting things about 13, and you can read more fascinating facts on its Wikipedia page.
Fun With Fibonacci
If you’re looking for a fun activity for Spreadsheet Day, how about this?
Here’s an Excel example that I made, to show the first 8 Fibonacci numbers, in a simple Excel sheet.
If you’re more ambitious, and you’d like to plot a Fibonacci spiral in Excel, there are instructions and a sample file on Tim Wolverson’s blog.
Tag Your Tweets
Have fun with your spreadsheets today, and if you tag your tweets with this hashtag:
- #spreadsheetday
I can find your contributions, when I’m doing the Spreadsheet Day roundup later.
Spreadsheet Day Video
A few weeks ago, I was asked to make a short promo video for Spreadsheet Day, so here it is!
How I Made the Video
First, I took a screen shot of a blank Excel workbook, and used that as a slide background in PowerPoint.
Next, I added text and images, and animated those objects. When everything was ready, I exported the slide show as a video file.
Finally, I used Microsoft’s ClipChamp program to add a stock video clips, and some background music. There’s a free version of ClipChamp, so you can give it a try, if you’re interested.
NOTE: ClipChamp doesn’t work in Firefox (my default browser), so you’ll need to use Chrome or Edge.
