Spreadsheet Travel: Camping Checklist
Do you ever go camping? My family had camping vacations every summer, when I was growing up, and Dad always had everything meticulously organized.
However, those were the dark ages, before spreadsheets had been invented, so Dad probably had our supply lists written on graph paper, or something equally high tech.
Excel Checklist for Camping
When our kids were younger, we went camping many times too. And now, both of them are carrying on the tradition with their own kids!
My daughter went camping with friends this weekend, and I was impressed to learn that she planned the whole thing with an Excel checklist.
It’s great to know that a love of spreadsheets (and camping) runs in our family!
Here’s a blurry shot of the dining tent that we brought long on our camping trips, back in the olden days. It was a pain to set it up, but worth the effort, because we escaped most of the mosquitoes!

Perhaps you have your own camping checklist, in Excel, or another program. If not, there’s a free camping trip planner, in Excel, available for download on the Microsoft Office Templates site: Camping Planner
A Few Camping Tips
Finally, here’s a short checklist for you, while you plan your camping trip.
Don’t make the mistake that we made one summer – we left home without the tent stakes! Dad had to make some at the campsite, using a bundle of firewood.
My Camping Tips
- Plan easy meals for your camping trip – simple recipes and ingredients
- Bring extra matches
- Do meal planning and prep work before you leave
- Bring extra towels and cleaning cloths
- Bring plenty of bags for laundry and garbage
- Fill your cooler with ice blocks – they lasts longer
- If you’re cooking over the campfire, bring scrubbers to clean your pots and pans (whatever the manufacturer recommends)
- Bring oven mitts for cooking over the fire
