Spreadsheet Creativity: Gaming
While you’re sweating over the budget spreadsheets, or tweaking your sales forecasts in Excel, you’d be surprised to learn that the guy next door might be updating his combat and mutilate spreadsheets.
It’s not as bad as it sounds though — those are gaming spreadsheets, used by World of Warcraft aficionados. It’s a foreign language and culture to me, but if you’re interested, you can download sample workbooks from the Elitist Jerks forum.
The questions about the combat and mutilate spreadsheets are quite different from the ones I see in the Excel forums. For example:
- Is there any special reason Footwraps of Vile Deceit are enabled over Dawnwalkers by default?
- What is the new crit cap formula? 100 – glancing – miss – dodge = crit cap? Without the 4.8? I couldn’t find this searching the rogue forums.
Even if you aren’t interested in World of Warcraft, it’s worth taking a look at the spreadsheet. They’re a great example of using Excel formulas and lookup tables, and having some fun while you do it!
